Safe Arrival volunteers work from the main office to check on each child who is absent, and whose reason for absence is not known to the teachers. The volunteer confirms with the teacher that the child has not arrived, and then attempts to contact the parents to confirm that the child is safely with them. If a child cannot be found, a report is made to the school secretary, who then monitors the situation.
When your child is late or absent, please call the Safe Arrival office at 604.713.5792. This lets the school know that the child is safe, and greatly reduces the work for the volunteers and the secretary.
If anyone else wants to volunteer for a morning safe arrival shift, please contact Monika at

SAFE ARRIVAL is a program run by parent volunteers who come into the main office from 9:00 to 9:45 every morning. Volunteers check the attendance submitted by teachers. If a child is absent, the parents have not phoned the school, and the teacher does not know why, the Safe Arrival volunteer calls the child's home to verify that the child is accounted for. One benefit of the job for parent volunteers is that they learn more about the school and meet some of the staff. The real benefit, however, is knowing that they are making a difference by assuring the safety of all the children at the school. Safe Arrival is up and running as of October 8. We currently have about 12 volunteers, but more would make it much easier. Anyone who can come in to help us from 9:10 to 9:45 two mornings a month is invited to contact Monika Gay, Safe Arrival coordinator, at
