Dear Maple Grove parents and guardians
Welcome to our first eNewsletter. Earlier in the year, we promised more and
better communication within our community. Well, this eNewsletter is one of the ways in which we deliver on this promise, in a "green way". The eNewsletter is published approximately once a month, with announcements, news and up to date information for our PAC and our school. We are committed to building a strong sense of belonging and connectedness at our school, and
are devoted to the success of all our students. We encourage you to participate and to feel a part of this wonderful school community. Our experience at Maple Grove is what we make of it!
We are in the process of updating the Maple Grove PAC website www.maplegroveschool.ca. Please let us know of information you wish to see on the site, and visit us often for up to date news.
If you wish to be added to our email list, please send your request to info@maplegroveschool.ca. If you want to be removed from the email list, please go to the fine print at the bottom of this newsletter, click on the link and follow instructions on the page.
Maple Grove is a community that cares deeply, shares generously and helps willingly!

You are invited to the next PAC meeting!
|

|
Next PAC meeting is on Wednesday October 21st at 7 pm in the library. Please
come and enjoy our delicious refreshments, and find out about PAC activities, volunteer opportunities, what's happening around the school as reported by our principal, vice principal, teachers, and others. It's a great opportunity for parent education, for parents to get together to share
ideas and to "hang out" etc. Please bring your energy, ideas and enthusiasm to our meetings so we can create another fabulous year at Maple Grove together.
This PAC meeting features a guest speaker, Elizabeth Lumley, who will give us a one hour parent education session on "How to Build Self-Esteem in Our Children From the Foundation of Attachment". Elizabeth managed and ran a therapeutic foster home, is a Behaviour Interventionist, a Life Coach, a
Counselor, a teacher, a mentor, a business owner, and a music teacher. She has many skills and abilities that allow her to do many other things, but these descriptions are enough for now. She has been an avid
student of Dr. Gordon Neufeld for the past eight years. This study has helped her to become a behaviourist. She says, "If you want to change the behaviour learn how to change the way a person is attached."
Minutes from September 16, 2009 PAC meeting can be found by clicking here. Please review it prior to the October 21, 2009 PAC Meeting.

SAFE ARRIVAL: is a program run by parent volunteers to make sure that our students arrive at school safely. Safe Arrival is up and running as of October 8. We currently have about 12 volunteers, but more would make it much easier. Anyone who can come in to help us from 9:10 to 9:45 two mornings a month is invited to contact Monika Gay, Safe Arrival coordinator, at monika@digitalquicksand.com. Please click here for more detail.
CLASS PARENTS: Many parents have volunteered as Class Parents this year to actively participate in the communication process between the parents, PAC and school. Class Parents are also a supportive resource for the class teacher and a communications liaison between the parents and teacher of the class. Class Parents have already began to collect information for the Class Contact List. This Class Contact List is used only for distribution of communications that are class, PAC or school related. With a year of exciting events and busy activities ahead at Maple Grove, we appreciate the initiative taken by the Class Parents and for taking on this important role in the communication process. Please click here for detail.
KILOMETER CLUB: The purpose of this program is to build participation in aerobic activity, provide opportunities to participate in a school wide activity that enhances school culture, an activity that brings students, teachers, and parents together to work towards a common goal and promote the sport of running and track and field. Expect exciting news about this club in the near future.
MONTESSORI: "Does Montessori Prepare Children for the Real World?" is an information night presented by Tim Seldon. Please click here for more detail. On Friday, October 23, the British Columbia Montessori Association annual conference will be held at the same location. Please click here for more detail.
