Maple Grove PAC
eNewsletter November 2009
Greetings!
Welcome to our second eNewsletter.
At the last PAC meeting, our principal Dr. Eileen Phillips announced that she is retiring this
December. Maple Grove is very blessed to have such an increbible leader for the past five years. We acknowledge Eileen's dedication and tireless effort in making Maple Grove a
wonderful school and community. We would like to honour all her accomplishments as our much loved principal. As a community, let's put our heads (and
hearts) together to come up with ideas to make this a really
memorable event. Please join us at the PAC meeting on Nov. 18 and bring your ideas to plan and organise this very special occasion. Let us all participate and to be a part of this wonderful school community.
Remember: our experience at Maple Grove is what we make of it!

Shopping Cards Update
|
|
Thanks to all Maple Grove families, teachers, and staff who support our on-going shopping cards fundraising program.
It has been a big success. In October and November, we have brought in over $14,000 of purchases.
PAC commissioned approximately $500 (average 3.5%). December is holidays season, it is time for celebration and giving.
Please plan for your gifting order as well. Order forms will be distributed to our students at end of November. Return your order by December 4 to ensure your order distribute back to you before school ends for holidays.

Class Parents Update
|
|
Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to have Class Parents for all divisions at Maple Grove! The Class Parents have been actively collecting contact information for each division so that the PAC and your teacher can better communicate with parents like you. We understand that some parents can be busy and may not able to commit to a coordinator role but there are other ways to show your support.
The following are a few things that you can do to support our Class Parents and more importantly, your child's education environment:
- Send your contact information (Name, Phone Number & Email) to your Class Parent so that we can keep you informed about PAC, class or school related communications. If you don't know who your Class Parent is, ask the teacher or contact us, the Class Parent Coordinators and we'll gladly forward you their contact information so that you can connect with them.
- Stay connected with your Class Parents for volunteer opportunities. The children absolutely love having parents around the school and the classroom! Seeing their parents or other parents engaging in school related activities shows them that parents believe that the school and their education really is important. If any volunteer opportunities appeal to you, please let your Class Parent know and do as little or as much as you like. Any amount of time that you can offer would be greatly appreciated and definitely beneficial. You will make a difference!
See you at school!

Maple Grove Kilometer Club
|
|
We are very excited to be launching our Maple Grove kilometer club to promote physical fitness. We will be holding an assembly launch on Nov. 19.
The first run will take place Nov. 24 at 8:30AM. This schedule will continue every week on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:30AM.
Please look for a permission form that will be sent home with your son/daughter after the assembly. The permission form contains pertinent information. Please read it carefully. Your son/daughter must bring this form to the first run in order to obtain a number to participate.
Our school has been very fortunate to have received much help and valuable advice from a very experienced running coach, Graeme Fell. He is an Olympian, a distance running coach for the Vancouver Thunderbirds running club and a school teacher.
Our principal and teachers have shown much support and enthusiasmfor this program. We hope you will as well by coming out to help as volunteers &/or run with your children. Both children and parents can benefit from physical fitness and an active lifestyle.
Please contact Mary Ann Lo at run-mlo-run@shaw.ca for any enquiries and volunteers information.

Hugs Can Cheer You Up Poem - by Unknown
|
|
It's wondrous what a hug can do,
A hug can cheer you when you're blue.
A hug can say, "I love you so.",
Or, "Gee! I hate to see you go."
A hug is, "Welcome back again."
A hug can soothe a small child's pain,
And bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There's just no doubt about it,
We scarcely could survive without it.
A hug delights and warms and charms,
It must be why God gave us arms.
Hugs are great for fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, swell for brothers,
And chances are some uncles and aunts
Love them more than potted plants.
Kittens crave them. Puppies love them.
Heads of state are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier,
And make the dullest day seem merrier.
No need to fret about the store of them,
The more you give, the more there are of them.
So stretch those arms without delay
And give someone a hug today.
Please send submissions to info@maplegroveschool.ca. Thank you for your support!
