Register Now! Conference Presenters 2010 Conference Keynote Catherine McTamaney Catherine McTamaney, Ed.D. is an award-winning Montessori teacher, former school director, and school consultant. Her writing appears in Montessori publications around the globe. Catherine McTamaney is the author of The Tao of Montessori, a collection of reflections on compassionate teaching that quickly became a favourite of Montessorians after its publication in 2005. Dr. McTamaney serves on the faculty at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, where she teaches coursework in education policy and advocacy. She is a former Montessori student, Montessori teacher, Montessori school director and the mother of two Montessori children. A recognized national speaker, Dr. McTamaney lives in Nashville with her family. Conference Keynote: William (Biff) Maier William Maier is Director of Faculty and Curriculum Development at Lexington Montessori School in Massachusetts, where he also teaches whenever he can! He coordinates the Center for Montessori Teacher Education/New York’s satellite program in Lexington, and is curriculum coordinator and a presenter at all of CMTE/NY’s sites. He also presents and consults for CMTE/NY’s Center for Montessori School Management. Involved with Montessori since 1974, Biff is a seminar presenter and consultant for the American Montessori Society, and, as former Chair of the AMS Teachers’ Section, he served on the AMS National Board of Directors. He earned his B.A. in psychology from Duke University and his M.Ed. from Xavier University, where he also received his AMS Early Childhood and Elementary 6-9 credentials. He also earned an AMI 6-12 credential from Bergamo, Italy. .Workshop Presenters Doug Goodkin Doug Goodkin is currently in his 32nd year at The San Francisco School, San Francisco, CA where he teaches music and movement to children from three years old through the eighth grade. He is an internationally recognized practitioner of Orff Schulwerk and is particularly known for his innovative application of Orff Schulwerk to the teaching of jazz and multi-cultural music and his ideas connecting Orff Schulwerk to the greater world of education, culture and human potential. Deborah Gillespie, E.C.E., B.A.Sc., A.M.S., M.Ed. Ms. Gillespie has spent over 20 years in education. Teaching at the 2 ½ - 6 yrs level in California, Ontario, and British Columbia. She was a Seminar Leader and Research Assistant at University of Guelph, as well as guest lecturer in the History and Philosophy of Education. She was an E.C.E instructor at Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology. Her research for her Masters Degree at the College of Notre Dame focused on the development of the child's self-esteem. Claudie Clark As a graduate of WMTC and a certified adult educator with over 17 years of experience in the Montessori method, Mrs. Clark currently teaches at the Foundation and Advanced levels as Managing Director for Western Montessori Teachers’ College in British Columbia. Her work also includes parent education, professional development workshops and community outreach projects. Claudie’s passion for learning involves her in further studies in adult education and mediation. As mother of Natashia, her work has involved supporting Montessori alternatives in public education in Surrey, B.C. When time allows, her interests include reading, enjoying the great outdoors and gourmet cooking. Irma Dangalio Rodriguez Irma Dangalio Rodriguez has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Masters in Education. She took her Montessori training with the AMI in Bergamo, Italy in the mid-seventies. Irma has been involved in training Montessori teachers in British Columbia since 1993. She currently leads the Montessori training program with the VSB Continuing Education Program. She also teaches a class of 20 some children ages 8-11 at the Maria Montessori Academy in Victoria. Michael Grice Michael Grice, Director of Education for the VANCOUVER OPERA continues to inspire teachers to makemusic, dance, the opera a lively part of their cultural arts program. This workshop would be a taste of what we can do in our classrooms, encouraging us to participate in their extended training workshops, usually held in the summer. Helane Ellis- B.Ed, ECE Science at Circle Time :“We especially need imagination in science. It is not all mathematics, nor all logic, but it is somewhat beauty and poetry.” Montessori Although theory based, this is a practical “how to” workshop. Payment SAVE with the EARLY BIRD SPECIAL!!! To avail of this rate, registration must be postmarked or online by October 5th. No registration will be accepted after October 15th. There will be no extensions. Spaces are limited! Registration Closes October 15th 2010! Early Bird Rate $130 (SAVE $30.00) After October 5, 2010 - $160.00 Conference Fee includes: Membership, all workshops, keynotes and morning coffee break and lunch. Certificates of Attendance will be provided for completion of workshops and keynote Receipt, Confirmation and Cancellation Your conference packet will be handed to you at the conference, it will include, your membership, name tag, schedule, receipt and conference folder. The B.C.M.A. reserves the right to make changes they feel necessary to make it a great day for everyone. Conference fees are non refundable, but you may have someone take your place. Parking: Pay parking in effect @ $9.00/day
